My patient population is generally folks that have neck or back pain. So my role here is
the non-surgical management of patients with spine disorders.
In terms of non-surgical options they can range from correcting their exercise regimen
and medications, if needed, a guided physical therapy program, or injections for appropriate
patients.
Patients have different tolerances to medications. What we try to do here is find a medication
that will work for you — within your work schedule and confines — and to both address
the pain, minimize the amount of side effects the medication can have and also perhaps to
use some of those side effects to our advantage, like helping you sleep at nighttime so you
feel better rested in the morning. We know that poor sleep and depressed mood can contribute
to worsening pain or decreasing your threshold for sensing pain. So, I think that tackling
all facets of these conditions is very important.
