Rain, mist and slippery.
Ideal conditions for driving the fastest BMW ever.
This Manhart M5 (let's pop the hood) has carbon, carbon, carbon.
It's the car's story. With the use of a laptop you can put 710 hp ...
on the rear wheels. Completely insane, thus fun.
Welcome to the world of very hungry hippos.
If you got a BMW M5 at the dealer's, you're doing it well hp-wise.
552 hp is quite a lot, but it could be more.
Tuning companies exist for those who want more.
One of those tuning companies in Germany is Manhart.
Manhart operates since 1986, working on BMWs only.
I should say they're doing a good job.
For example, they put a V8 in an E30 M3.
They stowed the V10 in an E36.
This is their latest product.
The M5 5-I-don't-know; a lot of letters and numbers.
The result is 710 hp, making it the world's fastest M5.
The road has dried up, so we can show how fast it is.
Let's try 0-62 mph without traction control and no wheel spin.
No guarantees, though.
OK, I'm on a provincial road now.
That was 130 mph. Bizarre.
710 hp on the rear wheels only is insane.
0-62 mph is useless in this car.
The magic happens at higher speeds. No one will keep up when ...
you hit the gas while doing 50 mph in 3rd or 4th gear.
For example, the normal M5 does 50-155 mph in 20 secs.
This one does it in 14 secs. 6 seconds faster.
All the numbers say this is a really fast car, but only from 3rd/4th gear.
This car performs best on the Autobahn.
To end the Dutch "what's the use" discussion: of course there's no use.
What good does it do to increase the power from 552 hp to 710 hp?
Because it's fun and because it's possible.
What does it cost?
It's not too bad, if we leave out the Tupperware.
The outside is just ugly.
No, I don't like the rims or the outside. Keep it a standard M5, ...
but with a level 4 package, which costs less than 20,000 euros.
That's a lot of money, but OK if you can afford an M5.
And why wouldn't you do it?
Compare it to parachuting. You can do this on Texel, making you an M5, ...
but Felix Baumgartner jumps higher and gets a better kick.
That's this Manhart.
