\b ANCHOR LOGAN TITTLE \b0 \uc0舲 舲 舲 It looks like
Apple may be giving directions after all \'97 but not the kind they intended. After their
new built-in Map app took a wrong turn they are now pointing users to alternative map
applications.\ \
Directions to those alternative map apps came in {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.apple.com/letter-from-tim-cook-on-maps/"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 this rare apology}} posted on the Apple website by CEO Tim Cook. He apologized
for \b \'93frustration\'94
\b0 caused by the app and added ...\ \
\b \'93While we\'92re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps
from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going
to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.\'94
\b0 \uc0舲 舲 舲 舲 And just to be sure you don\'92t get lost on the way
there the company also added a \'93Find Maps for your iPhone\'94 section to the homepage
of the app store.舲 舲 舲 舲 So what\'92s the best of the alternative map
apps offered? {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/2012/09/29/how-to-choose-an-apple-maps-alternative/1602289/"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 According to a USA Today writer}} it depends on what features you\'92re looking
for.\ \
He points out that both Mapquest and Waze provide spoken, turn-by-turn directions while
Bing, Nokia Maps, and Google Maps offer transit navigation. He goes on to call Google the
\b \'93obvious choice\'94 \b0 because it offers driving, walking, transit,
and even bicycling directions. \'a0\uc0舲 舲 舲 舲 But some say Apple should
take things one step further yet \'97 by allowing users to set their own default apps. {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK

to say ... \'a0}}\ \
\b \'93If Apple is really serious about \'91make[ing] world-class products that deliver the best
experience possible to our customers,\'92 they should add a field to the Maps preferences
settings that would allow users to select an alternate default mapping app.\'94
