>> Hi, my name is Garrick Scott.
Professionally my title is President of the National Federation of the Blind of Georgia.
I've had the pleasure of serving in this capacity for three years.
Personally, I never do this sort of thing; I never participate.
Especially I never participate in video competitions, especially of this ilk.
I thought I would give it a shot.
I do have a dream.
I want to be a homeowner.
I come from a family of four.
My father comes from a family of seventeen; my mother comes from a family of fourteen.
And in both situations, it is my grandparents who owned their house,
who passed their home onto the children.
And any one number of the children will live there.
And I want to do the same thing.
None of my siblings or I own our own home, and I want to take part in that process.
I want to be able to leave my daughter something.
So I say, "Well, maybe this would help jump start me to participate in this venture."
I can remember when I was first diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa.
I was eighteen.
And my mother had a family meeting about me without me.
And they were deciding who I was going to live with, who was going to be in charge
of taking care of me because she was about to go on the road,
driving a truck with her new husband.
And I went ballistic.
No one's going to take care of me.
No one's going to be in charge of me.
And now I have a job -- sad as it is.
It's crazy, but I consider it a triumph that now my siblings look to me
to borrow money from on occasions.
And no one thought I would even be able to achieve a college degree.
And I subsequently became the first in my family to achieve a college degree.
I just think this is the next step, the next progression
of what I should be doing in my life.
I'm 44 and I should own a home.
I should be a homeowner.
I'm renting a home but I want to own mine.
I want to be able to have people come over and show them renovations that I'm doing.
Yeah, I'm building a deck on the back.
As vain as that may sound, that's the sort of thing I want to work on.
So that's my main reason for taking part in this competition.
I have a dream: To own a home.
