Here you can see my solar cooker
it basically consists of a satellite dish which is mounted upside down on an old swivel chair
so, how did i get the surface reflective?
I've just used a reflective foil which i found on the internet for about 5€
As you can see, there are some bubbles left
but that's not a big deal.
Well, satellite dishes are made for concentrating waves like light into one point, the so called focal point
in this video here you can see how the sun is concentrated into one point, the focal point
[here you can see the focal point]
this was one of my first outside tests
it took about 10min for 1L of water to boil
i was really amazed how fast it went
so as you can see, boiling water is no problem
here i show you how to move the focal point
rightwards, leftwards, up and down
its very easy to do that
after I knew that everything worked well, I've made some major improvements
e.g. I've bought this tripod on the internet for 25€
I've also painted the pot in black which made it much more efficient.
Now water is boiling much (!) faster than before
one of my best improvements is this stick
it helps me to find the focal point again
you simply move the satellite dish until there's no more shadow.
Once you've found out the focal point, it's no problem to burn wood
it took only about 4sek and the wood started to burn
keep in mind that the energy in the focal point is very (!) big
it's almost like a weapon
It's amazing how much energy the sun is providing and how few of it we are using
but it's so simple. Just take a satellite dish and give it a try. You will be amazed
