This tutorial will show how to make a crochet peep
I will be using a size H, 5mm crochet hook
three different colors of 4 ply yarn
please share a video response, showing how you have personalized your crochet peep
we will start by attaching a slip knot to the crochet hook
take the loose end, wrap it over the main strand, now you have a loop
take the loop, wrap it over the main strand
put your hook below the center strand, back up the opposite side
this creates the slip knot
work a chain three
join with the beginning chain
wrap the yarn over your hook, pull through the first chain
pull through the second chain
work a chain 1
we are working right through the center of the loop
I am not going through any of the chain
work eight single crochet, working right over the tail
one
two
three
four
five
six
seven
eight
moving the tail to the back side
working in a continual round
instead of joining, I am putting my hook through the top of the first stitch
right below the two loops
working two single crochet in the first stitch
on round two, there will be a total of sixteen single crochet
working the first two single crochet in the same stitch
working the next two single crochet in the next stitch
five, six
six
seven
eight
nine
ten
eleven
twelve
thirteen
fourteen
fifteen
sixteen
we are back around to the beginning
continue to crochet, do not join
this will eliminate the seam
round three through eight will be one single crochet in each stitch around, for total of sixteen
working individual single crochet, rounds three through eight
since I crocheted over the tail
give it a tug
this will close the beginning nice and snug
working on the inside
making a knot
it is easier to work this at this point, because once the sides start to form, it will be more difficult to get to the center
it can be done, but I find it easier to do at this point
since this is going to be on the inside, I will not sew it between the stitches
just cut it off like that
I have finished the first eight rounds
at this point we will work on the eyes
this will be the eyes and they will be a french knot
count back three rounds
poke the needle between round three and four
pull the strand through
leave a little bit of yarn hanging out
I will be using that later to tie knots on the inside
wrap the yarn around the needle four times
I want to go back in a different place
If I insert the needle through the same place, it will pull the knot through the hole
then we will not have an eye
I am inserting the needle, slightly below in to round four
right below where I came up
give the yarn a little tug
do not pull to tight
or you will not be able to pull the needle through
going to the inside
pull the yarn through like that
you can see how our knot or eye is staying in place
this is what it should look like
move over a couple of stitches
insert needle to the front side
repeat the same steps
wrap the yarn around the needle four times
insert the needle slightly below, in to round four
giving the yarn a slight tug, not to much
pick the needle up on the inside
pull the yarn through
the eye stays on the front side
which is what we want
we do not want it pulling through to the back side
we have completed the eyes
cut off the yarn
turn inside out
make a knot on the inside
it does not have to be fancy, just a knot to secure everything in place
this will be on the inside
I am not going to sew between the stitches, just cut off the excess strand and leave it
this will be the beak
this is worked at a series of two chains
work a chain three
join with the beginning chain
work a second chain three
join with the beginning chain
what we have is a little figure eight
it will close up to create the beak
wrap the yarn over, pull off a long length of tail
we will use the yarn for attaching to the face
attaching the beak
place in the center, below the eyes
use crochet hook to pull through the extra strand of yarn
this will help hold the beak in place
insert needle to the back side, around to the front
over the front and to the back side
the loop should secure at the center
just like that
it starts to create the beak shape
that looks pretty good
I am running the yarn to the inside
make a knot, a secure knot
cut off the extra yarn
we have completed the beak
we will be working on the winge
this is going to be a series of chain
from this angle it may not look like it, but it is a series of chains
I have attached a slip knot to the crochet hook
work a chain four
join with the beginning chain
work another chain four
join with the beginning chain
I am working right below these two loops
joining right in the center each time
work a chain five
join below these two loops
working in the center
work a chain four
join at the beginning
work a chain four
join with the beginning at the center
work a slip stitch to secure the first two segments together
that completes the wing
wrap the yarn over, pull through a long length of yarn
this will be used for sewing to the sides
align the wing to the side
find a place where you think it should be
secure with a couple of loops
not necessary to work a lot of loops
run the yarn to the inside
use crochet hook to pull the second strand to the inside
cut off the extra yarn
tie a knot
cut off the extra yarn
that completes the wing
round nine will be eight single crochet decrease
starting the first decrease
insert the hook through the first stitch
wrap the yarn over, pull it through
leave the two loops on the hook
put your hook through the next stitch, wrap the yarn over, pull it through
I like to give them a little tug
this is the reduce any holes or gaps
wrap the yarn over, pull through all three loops
that completes the single crochet decrease
the remaining stitches will be the same
after completing the single crochet decrease, work a slip stitch
wrap the yarn over one more time, cut off along length of tail
you can use these as little finger puppets
you could put them on the end of a pencil
I will be using fiberfill
stuff the fiberfill through the opening
If you wanted to use them on the end of a pencil
you can insert the pencil and secure with glue
I will be sewing the end shut
I have threaded my tapestry needle
weave the tail between the stitches
pull on the yarn so the opening closes up
this will secure the fiberfill and keep it from coming out
work a knot
work a second knot
run right through the middle
cut off the tail
that completes the little peep
