Zaiba Mian: What we did is we assembled a multidisciplinary panel
of four people. An architect, an urban planner, another intern architect and a
cultural theoretician and we were sort of asking questions about where we are in design today.
I think this is an important event so that Humber establishes itself as
a design force and it's important for the students to get out, hear different ideas
and be exposed to the design landscape.
Lisa Prosper: I think really what we're looking to explore is the question of design
and education and is the current way of educating designers the best way
and is there another way that we might start to explore.
Dana Marciniak: I would definitely recommend for Humber students to come out.
I think it's a discussion we're all kind of having anyway and to have it with
industry professionals, to have it with other students in similar fields,
I think there's some value to that.
Zaiba Mian: So our Interior Design program is a bachelor in Interior Design.
It's a four-year program and what we really emphasize at Humber is a connection
between theory and also practice. It's great to be able to think in an abstract manner,
to be conceptual but I also think it's important to be able to apply those ideas to
real scenarios.
Dana Marciniak: I enjoy the new centre. It's definitely a fresh take on that environment.
It does emphasize the studio environment very much, there's a lot of collaboration
happening. The faculty is amazing. They push us, they give us ideas, they challenge us.
They see the potential in us and they know we can go further
and they take us there I think.
