I’m First Lady Jane Beshear.
Each year, illiteracy costs U.S. businesses $225 billion in lost productivity.
In Kentucky, we’re making the effort to improve that number by building a bridge to
future success through literacy efforts.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Kentucky’s 3rd Literacy Celebration
Week, March 4th - 8th. This year’s theme is “Bridges to Literacy.”
I’ll be traveling throughout the state during the week visiting schools, libraries, businesses,
and education centers to help promote the importance of literacy.
I invite you to join me in participating by hosting a literacy-related event.
Libraries can spotlight books and authors.
Schools and education centers can plan reading events for students and staff.
Families can dedicate specific time to read together.
The possibilities are limitless!
We invite you to share your events and ideas on the Literacy Week website, at kentuckyliteracy.org.
You can also visit my Facebook page for updates on events throughout the week.
By working together, we can build bridges to literacy for all Kentuckians.
