Here's a great alternative to beginning your knitting with a slip knot.
You still start with an end...
You put your yarn over your thumb and forefinger with the tail of the yarn
on your thumb side. You put your knitting needle in,
hold the top with your forefinger to keep it secure,
start out with your diamond shape, go down into your heart shape,
go to the left, the right, and through as always.
Pull with your thumb, and you end up
with 2 stitches on your needle right away rather than just one.
Then you continue casting on as you normally would.
You have a really nice, smooth beginning. www.reallyclear.com
