>> STREET: One of the things that I think that I’m most proud of is something that
we started ten years ago and have developed over that time and that’s the internet radio
station which is very much the centre of what we do, the Bournemouth internet radio station.
The acronym is BIRSt with an ‘ I’ ands it’s been going along as the course has.
And it’s basically handed over to each cohort when they come on the course.
>> RADIO PRESENTER: And there we are back again for yet another lost lot, Dan, an enlightening
one with episode number 15, across the sea.
>> TYLER: Most people at Bournemouth who have been here this year will have told you that
Phil Jupetus has been one of our mentors which is fantastic, not only for the radio students
but for the media school as a whole and there was a real buzz about the collaboration between
BIRSt, which is our master station you can see in production behind us and Nerve, which
is the on campus sort of student run station and Phil was very much a mentor and the presenter
of the breakfast show for a week
>> STUDENT: Not only do you know everything behind it, your hands on, but they also try
and help you apply that to real work that you are doing.
>> LEE: You get to work with tools that the industry uses, the equipment that the industry
uses and that’s so valuable, particularly now.
>> WRAY: Radio isn’t just radio anymore. It’s audio, it doesn’t necessarily come
out of a radio. So the radio industry is buzzing itself, it’s what we call cross platform
content. And that’s what’s great about radio at Bournemouth. You’ll get the chance
to make cross platform content.
>> STUDENT: If you’ve got real love for radio then the course is only going to feed
that even more. It’s hectic but it is really exciting.
>> STOLLER: I think the media school here in Bournemouth is widely recognised as being
the best in the business. And certainly from a radio point of view this is the place where
everybody turns first to see the research which is done here, the teaching which is
done here and the encouragement which it gives to people in the industry. This is the place
to be.
