So we're stepping through a bay window, and it's summer 1947 in Blackpool. There's a terraced
house, a converted house into a B&B, and Violet and John arrive, newlyweds, it's their honeymoon.
It's 9th of August, and they'd hired a car to travel from Manchester to Blackpool which,
from their recollection, is about 50 miles. So they arrive in what they consider to be
a beautiful setting. As they sit by the bay window, they look out over a seaside promenade
and a tram track which runs along the shore. Going for a walk along this promenade was
a thing to do when having a holiday in Blackpool. Violet and John didn't want people to know
it was their honeymoon. During their stay, Violet and John befriended another couple.
They'd been invited to join them to have a game of golf, 'if you could call it that',
commented John, as it was his first-ever experience of being on a golf course. Nonetheless they
enjoyed themselves immensely, and from then on the two couples enjoyed walks, sharing
meals and other outings together. One meal time as they sat eating lunch in
the B&B, the wife of the befriended couple leant over discreetly and commented to Violet,
'Er, if you get married again, and you don't want people to know about it, I suggest you
brush the confetti from your hair.'
