Today's episode is targeted toward the youth especially... but helpful to all sectors. Many feel weak against their desires. He cannot resist it. Every time it requests something, it gets it. The temptation could be illegal drugs, transgressions, sins, or anything else. Whichever it is, he cannot control oneself.
The ability he doesn't have in Islam is called Mujahdat Alnafs, which is Jihad Alnafs with much greater intensity. This title of this episode may sound very weird to some of you, and that's because culturally the meaning has disappeared from the minds. Therefore the idea has become very difficult for us.
Let us define "Mujahdat" and "Alnafs" so we have a clear meaning first. "Mujahdat" has the origin of "Jahad" which means to exert the effort. So "Mujahdat" means to exert one's effort even to the degree of exhaustion if necessary to resist something. So "Mujahdat" means to "stop breastfeeding" yourself from its whims, just like how the mother has to stop breastfeeding her baby.
The baby always dissatisfied at that time, and really wants it. But the mother has to say he had enough. In our life now, it means to say No to your desires: marijuana? Say no even if you will be bullied by your friends. Go somewhere with the intention of transgression? Say no. But my self wants to: say no.
Selves have types. Do you know them? "Self that is inclined to evil"? Yes. What is it? It tries to take over the person and always pushes him/her to transgress Allah. The person never resists it. Do you know a verse about this self? When Alaziz's wife confessed her betrayal to her husband (the king of Egypt)
Do you see what she did? She let herself be attracted to her slave, went close to him, seduced him, locked the doors firmly... Do you see how weak she is. She lost her Hiaa' (shyness from Allah), and lost her value as a woman. Even when she apologized she blamed her-self, as the self is a different entity which controlled her entirely.
We are not displaying these self types for philosophical discussions, but rather to evaluate yourself. Don't listen and just say "Oh that's such a bad self." You need to deep inside rate yourself. Do it honestly, no matter how bad it sounds. Do you know another kind? 00:04:58.500,05:50:.500 "Self-reproaching?" Yes. What is it? Whenever it falls in a sin, because of its human nature, it feels sadness, regret, and fear of Allah. Does anyone remember a verse mentions it? "I do call to witness the Resurrection Day(1) And I do call to witness the self-reproaching spirit; (Eschew Evil).(2)" (Surat Al-Qiyamah)
Why are these 2 swears mentioned in sequence? There is nothing remind this self (with its goodness) more than the Awakening Day. You will find Surat Al-Qiyamah focuses on 1 meaning only: connecting the reproaching self with that day. Another verse says "But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him(5) He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?"(6)" (Surat Al-Qiyamah)
The one who questions the Awakening day is the same one who forgets purposely. So that was the reproaching self, which is when it is mistakes because of its natural temptations, the pain of regret comes back to it. What about the third self? The Tranquil Self. Why is it called so? Because all the kinds of selves are in distractions and unrest, except this one.
Yes, all the other kinds are busy-minded and busy-hearted with the little problems, fears, and desires. This one is on the contrary pure. So can you reach this self? Of course! How? Do more Jihad to yourself. Does anyone remember a verse about this self?
"(To the righteous soul will be said:) O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!(27) Come back thou to thy Lord well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!(28) Enter thou, then among my Devotees!(29) Yea, enter thou my Heaven(30)" (Surat Al-Fajr). Are there any other selves?
"How can the self be tranquil if it should be constantly and simultaneously in hope and fear?" Good question! The answer is at the episode end. Again, is there a fourth self? The Unserious Self. This kind is almost the most dangerous. What is it? It is wasted, distracted, and unconscious. It is neither lost, transgressing, sinning, etc.
Nor it is the keen kind to be obedient at all times. Nor it is the one that blames itself when transgresses. He is in a long sleep... without an aim. They say about that kind "he is respectable", "she is nice", "she is good", and "her parents raised her well." But deep inside, she is empty.
Neither obedient nor disobedient to Allah this self is. It is simply unserious and lost, and thus wasted. Do you want to hear something really odd? Sometimes the Unserious self is much more difficult to repent than the Inclined-to-Evil self. That is because the Inclined-to-Evil self after transgressing for awhile it becomes ... disgusted with the transgressions.
Any transgression is accompanied with humiliation, weakness, and disgust. The guy who the whole morning drinks alcohol and with girls doing fornication or what leads to it will eventually be immensely disgusted, angry with himself, and want repent. But the Unserious doesn't cross his/her mind to repent.
The devil tells him/her "you are good and were raised well. You are really good. Have you forgotten who better you are than that guy (pointing to the worst example to feel his/her goodness)? Do you really have to pray and stuff to be good? Don't pay attention to the envious."
Do you know what is odder? Whenever the Unserious self is about to transgress, the devil pushes it away. That way it never feels regret or disgust, so never is awakened... until death approaches. Only then, the death angel stands by his/her head, s/he wonders why s/he was on earth to realize that being decent is not good enough.
The Unserious self is one of the most difficult. And unfortunately it populates the majority of humanity. So what self are you? Yes these words are to you, not anyone else. Are you one of those who feel powerless every time your desire arises? Do you feel arrested to your temptations, as if it pulls you from the neck?
S/he is not sovereign, but a slave to his/her temptations. "Have you seen him who takes his own *** (vain desires) (Al-Jathiyah 23)" That means I am obedient to my mood. If today's mood says "spend the night in a promiscuous night club" or "I don't like my parents, so leave their home" then I obediently follow it.
Worrying one's parent is 'ooqooq, which is the greatest sin in Islam. So whick kind of the four is you?
