"St. Joan of Arc high school was one of our first schools in our board that became eco-certified
and because of their strong interest in the environment. We supported the initiative to
have a wind turbine installed in this school. The green school pilot initiative is an excellent
program in Ontario to promote new technologies in schools and helps promote and stimulate
the green economy in the province."
Joe Timmins - Principal, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School:
"The green school pilot initiative here at St. Joan of Arc is a very visible sign of
our commitment to greening efforts and sustainability. It's become quite a discussion piece and focal
piece again for our curriculum in the classroom. The website monitoring of the turbine is an
added bonus, it's a very user friendly interface and the information is dissected and presented
in various ways that helps the students."
Phillip Spencer - Grade 12 Student:
"I really like the idea that we can use this wind turbine in our classes so that with the
biology and environmental science we can kind of study it, and see how it's affecting our
lives."
Glenn Clarke - Controller of Plant, Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic District School Board:
"Through the program there has been over a 150 schools in 40 school boards that have
benefitted through this program and the schools are going to be able to become more green
and also become more energy efficient."
Siobhan O'Hara - Grade 12 Student:
"I think it's like showing how we are, how we want to take care of the environment because
we are the ones that are living in it. Eventually maybe the whole neighborhood could get into
the idea to be more green is better."
Joe Timmins - Principal, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School:
"This one planet, one people, one community. So for the kids yeah you know we're just not
going to talk to you about wind energy we have it happening on the roof."
