Amir Hossein Abdollahian, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Our relations with the countries of the Persian Gulf are based on friendship and brotherhood.
Cooperation between our countries and these states is continuing in all areas.
We have differences of opinion with Saudi Arabia on several issues in our region,
but we are maintaining relations at the highest level,
at the level of our ambassadors, our embassies, the dialogue continues.
We have neighborly and brotherly relations with these countries.
The initiative of Dr. Rouhani means that we welcome the further expansion
and further strengthening of relations between our country and the Gulf countries.
We think that in the near future we will see profound changes in relations
between Iran and the countries in the Persian Gulf,
which will become part of the comprehensive further strengthening of our relations with these countries.
Along with bilateral, good relations with each of these countries
there is a collective initiative to cooperate in the fields that interest various parties.
As for the prospects for negotiations on a peaceful nuclear program of Iran,
we feel optimistic in this regard.
We believe that we are currently pursuing diplomatic negotiations, discussing technical issues,
that is why it only strengthens our optimism.
Given the behavior that the Americans used to demonstrate towards us in the past,
which could not be trusted, of course, here we see pessimism.
The Americans and the West must prove that they are taking action in order to inspire others to trust them.
The result of these negotiations depends on the extent of action taken by other sides in this process.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is set very seriously on the continuation of these negotiations.
We have worked out a strategy, a very serious approach to negotiations.
In the course of this process all sanctions will have to be lifted,
Iran's rights on the nuclear program lifted,
while the atmosphere of pessimism will have to be replaced with an atmosphere of trust.
This is a titanic work, but it is possible to do it.
We will undertake steps in this positive direction.
