How to Overcome Discouragement in Real Estate Sales
Hi, I'm Rod Cartledge, founder of realestatetrainingguru.com
There is one certain fact that you will encounter during your real estate career and that is
that you will become discouraged no matter who you are. You will ask yourself why am
I in this business from time to time. This is just one of the emotions we feel when we
have had a number of disappointments and things haven't worked out the way we had hoped for.
It is at this point that a lot of agents quit.
Those agents who succeed are bouncers and those agents who fail are splatterers.
Ask yourself...are you are basketball or a meat pie.
If a basketball hits the ground it bounces back high.
If a meat pie hits the ground it splatters.
I am sure there have been many times in your career when an owner has promised to list
with you and you drive past their house a few weeks later and see another agents sign
on the property or you have a hot buyer who has made an offer on one of your listings
and it has been accepted by the owner only to have the buyer pull out at the last minute.
I remember one weekend when I was in real estate sales, that I had an exceptional weekend
and sold 5 properties. When I was in my office on Monday morning between 9 and 10 am, I took
5 phone calls and all of the sales I had made on the weekend had fallen over.
Two of them from bad building and pest reports.
Two had changed their minds and one had been advised by a relative not to buy.
I was devastated at the time and very discouraged, however after about an hour I picked myself
up and bounced back, and found some creative ways to save two of the sales.
With the other three I said to myself if I had found buyers for these properties then
there must be other buyers in the market who will buy them, if I can just find them. So
I set about doing that.
In the next two weeks I did find buyers and sold each of the three properties again.
Whenever you get discouraged determine to be a bouncer and get straight back into the
game and work hard for the next deal.
