Hey guys, ready to kick it with today's Brief? Yeah, you are. Let's kill the next three minutes
celebrating the return of Princess Leia, a real-life British Batman and the passion project
that's got Jon Stewart leaving the Daily Show.
Here's your Brief! First up, there's been no shortage of rumors
about the new Star Wars saga, with many of them focused on the original actors and whether
or not they will return. From the buzz on the interwebs, it's a pretty safe bet that
Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford will be involved, and now Carrie Fisher has gone on the record
to state that she will in fact be reprising her legendary role of Princess Leia.
And the movie gods rejoiced! We can't imagine the 60-something actress rocking a speeder
bike or a blaster so much anymore, but we're still down to see how the character will figure
into the new series and naturally, what kind of bizarre hairdos or costumes she'll be wearing.
Are you guys excited about the return of the original Star Wars cast members or should
the series be focusing more on finding new blood?
Get your geek on in the comments... Next up, is there a real-life Batman on the
loose in Britain? Police in West Yorkshire County released stills of an incident that
occurred in February involving a man dressed as the sixties version of Batman bringing
in a man he accused of handling stolen goods and fraudulent dealings. I guess the Dark
Knight outfit was a little too pricey? The man promptly disappeared into the night after
dropping off the alleged criminal, possibly because no one wants to deal with a crazy
person if they don't have to. Either way, the stunt has locals speculating
whether the whole thing was staged or if there's actually some guy out there in a really outdated
Batsuit looking for petty criminals. What do you guys think? Do masked vigilantes have
a place in society? Continue your geek sesh in the comments.
And finally, Daily Show fans are surely experiencing some mixed emotions today after an announcement
that its host and one of the most likable TV presences in the world - Jon Stewart - would
be taking a 12-week leave of absence from the show to focus on a passion project. This
summer Stewart will be writing and directing his first feature film, Rosewater, an adaptation
of of the book "Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival."
The story follows the real-life imprisonment of BBC correspondent Maziar Bahari in one
of Iran's most brutal prisons. Stewart has a personal connection to the story - one of
the reasons Bahari was suspected of being a spy was because of an appearance he made
on The Daily Show. It'll be sad to have Stewart off the air all summer - even with Jon Oliver
filling in, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't intrigued by this project. Are you
guys intrigued?
So that's it for today guys. As always, hit us up on Facebook and subscribe to our channel
