Hayden likes to ride the classics.
He was tenth overall in Perry Roubaix last year,
and that's definitely going to be a goal for him in the coming season
as well as the rest of the spring classics.
Hi, I'm Hayden. I've been on HTC coming now on my second year
so it's going to be a good year hopefully.
I'll be targeting the classics, and possibly the Tour de France,
so I'm slowly working towards those goals now.
As I moved through his pre-fit assessment,
we saw a lot of typical things. We saw forefoot varus,
a good amount of arch collapse, and then once we got him onto the table
we take a look at his range of motion, his own flexibility.
He has excellent flexibility,
which is fairly typical of athletes at this level,
especially an athlete like Hayden that really works on his flexibility.
Once we got him onto the bike, we took some existing measurements
to just see where his existing position had put him.
And one thing we definitely noticed
was that he was rocked pretty far forward,
and it looked like he wasn't getting proper support
from the saddle he had chosen.
I always feel I'm too light.
When I'm too light I feel like I can't breathe properly
and it sort of shuts off a few cylinders I guess you could say.
Hayden, when I first saw him on the bike,
he was definitely having trouble with the saddle.
And his sit bones measured fairly narrow, 8.5 centimeters wide.
We altered the fit of a Aliante saddle, a little bit of nose down
to give him a pocket to sit in
that helped his narrow sit bone width a little bit better,
supported him a little bit better in that spot.
Then it was just a matter of getting that saddle
back into the right spot.
I was just slightly going off seat, to slide more to the left
so they put a shim in my right shoe because I was,
my foot wasn't sitting flat on the sole.
One of things Hayden always described when he was peddling
was that he felt like his big toe was having to move a lot
to connect to the bottom of the shoe so what we did
was we helped support that structure.
We brought the forefoot varus wedge into his shoe, underneath his foot bed
to help support, basically bring the shoe up to his foot.
The forefoot varus support that we put in there,
Hayden noticed it right away.
Overall it was good changes.
He was really happy with the positive changes that we had made.
He felt more comfortable, generating more power on his bike
After being here and seeing how the guys have set me up in an hour
and just a few little tweaks, no drastic changes,
just a few little ones, I already like. I just know it's good,
so I'm looking forward to starting training with it.
