Throughout 2010, KCATA has been constructing stations for the new Troost MAX route.
At 31st & Troost, we have also built a park-and-ride where there was once an empty lot.
The park-and-ride is the first pervious concrete parking lot in the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
Pervious concrete is a green technology that allows rain water to soak through the concrete
to the soil below.
This helps reduce the amount of polluted water that goes into the sewer system during a rain
storm.
After clearing and leveling the lot at 31st & Troost, the edges of the park-and-ride
were built.
Gravel serves as a base below the pervious concrete.
Crews poured lines of traditional concrete to create forms for the pervious concrete.
New sidewalks and curbs have been built at MAX stations, creating a safer and more attractive
environment for customers and pedestrians.
After the construction is done, the MAX shelter and monument are installed.
Another green feature of Troost MAX - also called the Green Line - is landscaping and
rain gardens.
Several rain gardens are near the 31st & Troost station. Like the pervious concrete,
these gardens will help the environment by capturing and filtering polluted water runoff
from the street.
The gardens are planted with a variety of native trees, grasses and flowers.
Troost MAX will begin on January 1!
Start the new year off right by joining us on MAX.
In the meantime, check out the new features and improvements already in place along the
Troost route.
