Farkas Róbert Budapest Bár
Budapest Bar is a special formation that is functioning since 4 years now, where Roma and non- Roma musicians perform together very successfully.
We are speaking about 10 singers, alternative singers and some from rock and roll and a gypsy bands.
Our cooperation is really good. What is very important for us is not only how Roma can work together with the others, but also that by this formation we are able to reach out to a much wider audience, if we go on to work like this together.
First of all we were very happy for the request to join this project.
We are very happy to join initiatives that aim at protecting the Roma, especially if such projects are not just about Roma and spread among Roma people but also to the wider public. So we are particularly happy to join the Roma Music CD project and we hope that we can also contribute to improve the situation of the Roma.
The next song you are going to see is part of our theatre performance, that is going to be published on DVD today.
In this we are performing a rather difficult piece from a violinist, Jenő Hubay.
He adapted this folk song, it is a widely known folk song in Hungary called “On the top of the wavy Balaton”
Of this he wrote a high volumen piece that is rather virtuoso, but as you will hear, it suits perfectly a gypsy band.
As far as I know, the European Director’s Forum is in Budapest for the first time. I hope that apart from the lot of work you did and do you will also be able to take home some nice memories. I hope that all your efforts will have their fruits one day.
