I had learned to live with a lot of pain,
a lot of sinus pain and pressure,
but it was dizzy spells that were becoming debilitating.
In particular I had an incident a few years ago,
and I went to the same specialist
and he decided to give me and MRI.
He just said to me, "I can't find anything wrong."
And it was probably two months after that
that I had the worst spell I've ever had.
And I said to my husband, "I'm done here."
I have a sister who's a nurse,
and I talked with her and I said,
"Between your research and mine,
let's see who we can come up with."
When she called me with the name she thought sounded fantastic,
I had his name, too, and it was Dr. Rauch.
From the minute we started talking,
he was asking me strange questions
like did I have a very sensitive stomach?
Did I ever have headaches?
I was probably six years old when I had my first headache.
My mother always gave me different food from my sisters
because I always seemed to get a bellyache.
And he went on to explain to me that migraines manifest
in many, many ways.
And one is in headaches, but another area is dizziness.
He said to me, "The first thing you're going to do
"is we're going to approach this in a very natural way.
We're going to look at your nutrition."
So then he presented me with this list,
and the list had chocolate, red wine, preservatives,
additives, meats that had antibiotics,
growth hormones in it-- get rid of all of it.
He said, "For two months-- just two months--
"I want you to take all that out
and just eat as natural as possible."
So I did it for three months, because after two months
I could not believe how terrific I felt.
I said to him, "I haven't had one headache
and not one dizzy spell."
He said, "Let's make one more appointment and see how you do
"because I want you to introduce the foods
that really mean a lot to you."
Dr. Rauch's approach is healing.
It's not about loading you down with medicines
to hide the problem.
It's really about going from the inside out and healing.
I'm just a normal person now.
Thank you very much, Dr. Rauch,
and thank you, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary.
I would not be in this great a shape without you.
