It is very easy to use all the stair lifts now. All of Stannah stairlifts are fitted
with a swivel seat. What this means is that when the stairlift gets to the top of the
stairs it will stop itself automatically, the footrest will finish level with the landing
at the top. Then by either releasing a leaver or keeping your hand on the directional control,
the seat will swivel round to face onto the landing. Your feet are then firmly on the
floor and you've got your two arms either side to push yourself up from the seat. The
other beauty of this is that when the seat is in that position it will form a barrier,
which will actually block the stairs behind you. So there's no danger of you falling back
down.
The new chair that we have is the Starla and it has been designed with the user in mind.
There are several new features on the Starla. The seatbelt is much more intuitive to use
and much easier to use with one hand so for people with less dexterity it is easier to
make sure the seatbelt is in pace.
The chair has been designed with a rounded back and also a slight till on the base and
the back of the chair, again, to give the user more of a comfortable and reassuring
feel when it's being used.
The arm control is equally as easy to use for people with restricted mobility, so it's
a simple tiller mechanism where you push it to the direction you want to go. There is
much more choice for people to suit their own particular home and circumstances.
