Hello and welcome to the SharePoint training video.
I'm going to show you how to use the discussions area
within SharePoint.
Goals of this video tutorial include locating the
SharePoint team discussion area, posting a new
discussion, replying within a discussion, and becoming
familiar with some of SharePoint's discussion
editing tools.
Upon logging into SharePoint, you will be
brought to the home page.
For purposes of this tutorial, I will use a
SharePoint demo site.
Along the left hand side of the screen, you will find the
team discussion link under the heading discussions.
The team discussion area allows you to hold news group
style discussions on topics relevant to your team.
Click on the team discussion link.
All discussions are displayed in the main area.
To post a new discussion, simply click on Add New
Discussion link.
A new screen will pop up called team
discussion new item.
Begin by adding a subject title to your
new discussion here.
This is required, indicated by the red asterisk.
Next, you can add your new discussion
message in the body.
You have the option of using the discussion editing tools
to format your text, edit your writing, attach a file, or
even insert hyperlinks or images.
When you're finished, click the Save button.
Your new discussion now appears on the main page.
To delete the discussion, hover your mouse over the
discussion, click on the down arrow that appears to the
right of the discussion title, and select delete item.
This is and other document functionality is also
available in the list tools navigation pane
under the items tab.
To read a discussion posted in the main area, simply click on
the discussion subject.
On the next screen, you will see the message at the top,
followed by any replies that are made within that
discussion.
To reply to the discussion, click the reply option at the
right side of the original message.
To reply to someone else's reply to the original
discussion, click reply option at the right side of the
associated reply message.
In both cases, the reply functionality is similar to
when you post a new discussion.
If you are unsure which message the reply is referring
to, you can always click on the show quoted messages to
find the origin.
To minimize the thread again, click on hide quoted messages.

This concludes your training.
