According to the United Nations, in 2013
44% of people in Nepal still live below the poverty line
In rural areas, many of the most productive members of households
are forced to migrate for work just to survive.
There is a lack of knowledge of efficient agricultural practice,
great gender and social inequality,
and many people have no access to financial capital
SAN’s vision is to change this
We aim to enhance prosperity and alleviate poverty in rural Nepal
and contribute to a society built upon the values
of social justice and gender equality
in which everyone has access to free, quality and marketable education
micro-credit, and economic opportunity
We believe that the keys to achieving this vision
are education and cooperative enterprise
We started the SAN school in reaction to the poor quality of education
offered at government run rural schools
We offer free education to all
providing students with marketable skills
that will help them achieve financial stability in the future
In addition to core subjects such as maths, English and science
we teach students how to effectively utilise the resources available to them
and equip them with knowledge of efficient agricultural practice
and organic farming techniques
We also make students aware of the importance of environmental conservation
the advantages of financial saving
and the values of social justice and gender equality
We help our students develop into forward independent thinkers
who can confidently overcome the challenges that life will present to them
and actively contribute to the prosperity of Nepal
However, our work does not stop there
We believe in and actively promote the UN proclamation:
“Cooperative enterprises build a better world”
We aim to make rural people aware of the benefits of cooperative enterprise
and we work with villagers to set up cooperative savings accounts
providing them with the training seed money and market access
that can help them achieve economic empowerment
We want to show that modern knowledge and skills
lead to employment and effective resource use
and that success comes from cooperation
The grounds of the SAN school are also a model
where locals can come to learn about agricultural initiatives
such as fish, mushroom, dairy and organic vegetable farming
and biogas toilets.
When people see this, then we can work together
to build the prosperous society
our country has the potential to be
JOIN US IN NEPAL!!!
