How to Follow Video Conference Etiquette. If you've been invited to participate in a
video conference, follow certain etiquette to avoid offending your colleagues. You will
need Preparation and appropriate clothes. Step 1. Be prepared by reading all materials
in advance, showing up on time, and following all of the instructions of the facilitator.
Step 2. Dress appropriately for a camera by avoiding bright colors, busy prints, and large,
shiny pieces of jewelry. Step 3. Turn off your cell phone and other electronic devices.
Focus on the meeting only. Step 4. Speak clearly and be aware of where the microphone is so
you can talk into it. Don't talk over others -- wait your turn. Be aware that there may
be a slight transmission delay, so be patient when asking a question. Step 5. If you have
to discuss something privately, mute your microphone. Avoid making excessive background
noise like rustling papers. Step 6. Just because you're on camera doesn't mean you have to
do something special. Be yourself. Did you know Video conferencing is being used to help
the hearing-impaired communicate over long distances.
