If you are anything like me you hate turning up finding that you are in a roomful of complete
strangers already in conversation with each other. Where do you start? You walk into the
room and you feel that you should just turn around and walk away again. Here is a tip.
Instead of walking ahead and trying to butt into a conversation, think about the person
who is arriving next. They've got the same problem plus one, so stop, turn around, wait
for them to arrive if necessary and welcome them. Walk into the room together and go get
a drink. They'll feel better, you'll feel better and you've started. So, instead of
looking ahead, turn around and welcome the next person, make them feel good.
