Last year, I traveled to Africa with my fellow UNH
nursing students to offer medical care and provide
supplies to struggling villages.
This was, by far, one of the most amazing
experiences of my life.
With our help, these people finally had access to
supplies, food, and medicine.
But as soon as we left, there pipeline for
supplies were also gone.
As much as we were able to help them while we were there,
they soon returned to the same situation they had been in
before we arrived.
Upon my return to the United States, my friend told me
about microloans.
Microloans are a long-term solution to the troubles these
underdeveloped communities have been having.
Disease, starvation, and social unrest are all brought
upon by economic underdevelopment.
With a seemingly insignificant amount of money to the average
American, we can help start a business that is able to get
products to these communities that are so isolated from
possible supplies.
This promotes innovation, development, and industry,
which leads to overall economic growth.
If the nation's social unrest is economic by nature, how do
we get more money invested to start these microloans?
Our team's plan is to take an already successful business
model to make a difference in underdeveloped countries.
In the last several years, online and app-based games
within a social network have been growing in popularity.
Games like Candy Crush and Words with Friends are
entertaining to play while competing
against your friends.
With this growing market, revenue, generally brought in
by advertisements and user purchases, can now be used to
provide microloans in the user's name.
This is how it will work.
We are going to get the best game developers
on the market today.
This will allow us to have games that are entertaining
and addicting on multiple systems.
The games will allow users to earn tokens.
These tokens will be cashed in to purchase microloans.
And the microloans will be sent over to these
underdeveloped nations.
If the investment yields a return, the user will receive
the profit.
The main source of revenue is like any other online game,
through advertisement.
But we offer a benefit that no other game platform does.
These advertisers now have the ability to get a tax deduction
on their marketing dollars spent.
They will reach the same market.
But all the money that is donated by the users can be
written off by the advertisers as a charitable donation.
They're not purchasing advertising space but funding
microloans through our company.
Not only is this good will, but advertisers will see this
as good finances.
We will team up with the existing microloan foundations
who already have systems in place to getting supplies to
these communities and keep track of who and where the
money's going.
All we do is create a platform for these users to play games
and let them purchase microloans.
This won't take a lot of money to start.
But it could yield great benefits
to us and the community.
By creating a business model that benefits all parties
involved, we are attempting to come up with an eloquent
solution to a complex problem.
A little change goes a long way.
