In this video, we're going to take a look at the family room addition
so we can understand why we have mice coming into our house.
This is the closet where I've caught several mice.
I removed the cabinets, I sprayed some foam into the voids
but the pesky rodents are still getting in.
To understand what's going on,
let's take a look outside.
Here we are looking at the deck.
The blue siding is the addition;
the red brick
is the old part of the house.
[Whoops, bad transition. Sorry!]
OK, If we take a look under the deck,
we can see where the deck meets the addition
--that's the white board--
and you can see some insulation hanging down from the floor joists.
The solid foundation wall is directly underneath the closet wall
that we were looking at from the inside.
And we can also see the piers
that are supporting the back of the addition.
From a different angle now,
there's that solid wall again and the piers that are supporting
the back of the addition.
This open area is under only about one quarter of the addition.
The rest of the foundation is solid with no ventilation and no access
to any crawl space.
As we pan up,
you can see the open floor joists and insulation
and it's easy to understand how the mice are getting into the house from this point.
But to see exactly where they're getting in
I would have to crawl over this mess
and quite frankly,
I would rather just set a few more traps inside...
