Okay, so Saturday's ... is a day were I meet with some philosophising
friends of mine
and, uh ... one of the things that we were talking about today
was how ... uh ...
doing a good deed
gives you a ... a certain amount... a rush of dopamine
but when you see somebody else do a good deed,
apparently you get a greater rush of dopamine than even
doing the good deed yourself.
and uh... I remember
hearing that story uh...
at one time in the past
and I'm thinkin',
that's pretty screwed up. Why don't people get more of a rush from doing good
things? 'Cause i'm the type person does good things
when uh... whenever I can.
and uh...
As I thought about it, I realized that I had this very experience that we were
talking about with a number of different things. If...
If I see a
person and that I ner... never met before in a park & he picks up garbage, carries
it over, and puts it a garbage can, I get a ... a rush of a good feeling.
um... There's other instances like...
in front of my house, a bunch of time's I snow-blowed the entire
wh... a width of the street from our power lines to
the corner, an uh... and
at first I ... I was just doing it because it was fun, it... I ca... I got a
really cool snow-blower, but then uh... some of the other neighbors started to get up
earlier than me, and beat me to it, and they were snow-blowin' huge amounts of block,
not just in front of their house.
and uh...
It caught on.
Other people started doing it in other areas,
and I remember
feeling a rush. I mean, I was a little jealous that I didn't get to do my
favorite little snow-blower good-Samaritian thing, but
I remember really being happy that other people were doing it.
And I think the thing th.. that tickles me at my core
(and maybe it's what does it for other people),
is that you become aware that
that theres
good in society, theres good in the world, theres good in other people, people
that you don't have any control over are doing good things for no apparent reason,
and that's a rush.
To know it's more than just you;
That... that's the rush, I think.
