Hey guys. Welcome to another episode from tasty sauces dot com
I'm your host Billy D
and today we are traveling back to Texas and doing some taste testing on some
all-natural
Texas salsas
On the left we have Clint's Texas Salsa. This company was founded in
1996 in San Antonio
There is salsa is bragging to be all natural and gluten free
and they won the
Texas Fiery Foods Shootout in 1998 and they
got crowned the best salsa in Texas.
One interesting thing about this Clint's Texas Hot Sauce is they actually use
Serrano peppers. Typically, with bottled salsas the hottest you will find is jalapeno peppers
although there are a few exceptions but the Serrano peppers are a little bit hotter than that
so I am expecting that salsa to be pretty spicy
The other salsa we are looking at is Hooks U Salsa.
this company started out in 2004 in Colleyville, Texas and they are also
another all-natural salsa and gluten-free
They were actually the winner of the 2005
Fiery Foods Shootout
that the
Clint's salsa won back in
1998. So it should be interesting to see how the two champs stack up to each other.
So let's go ahead and jump right in to this Clint's Texas Salsa and give it a nice shake
It has a nice little smell to it. You can definitely smell the cilantro in there.
a little tomato
You can taste a strong bit of tomato and it has a strong bit of spice like I suspected
overall pretty tasty stuff
From my 1 to 5 scale
I give this one a 4 out of 5 on my personal preference scale.
As far as spiciness
definitely get a taste of the Serrano peppers
so I am going to give this one a 6 out of 10 on the spicy scale
Now, let's test out the Hooks U Salsa
I am going to have to struggle on this one.
There we go
hope I didn't look to weak there
Its got a nice little aroma to it
so let's see what they got in there: they got tomatoes, onions,
jalapenos, salt, garlic,
paprika which is nice to see
spices and cilantro
So it's not too chunky. It does have some chunks in there but
pretty
pretty pureed
It has got a really nice
smooth taste to it
It's a medium version so it is not really spicy
I'd probably give it a 3 out of 10 on the spicy scale
uh...
as far as my personal preference scale
this one is going to be either a 3.5 or a 4
I'm probably leaning a little bit more towards a 3.5 on it
So as far as these two salsas stacking up
I am going to have to go with the Clint's Salsa on this one
If you guys have tried these out
definitely let me know what you guys think below and
don't forget
the right sauce
makes all the difference.
