You look rather pale. Are you feeling ill?
I don’t know if I’m sick or not. Why is there blood in my poop?
Oh, gosh, I can’t believe you brought that up! I was just asking if you were OK.
Sorry, sorry. If you can, do you have any idea why?
Maybe you have a *** tear, in the skin around the butt. It can rip or tear, because
that skin is as thin as your eyelid, creating fresh blood.
Do you know what else could cause it?
That can be a sign of colon cancer. Though colon cancer is rare, it is one of the most
fatal cancers because it isn’t caught until it has spread in most cases.
Now I’m feeling ill. Minor tear or cancer and nothing in between?
You could have blood in your poop due to an internal injury or illness. If you have colitis,
inflammation of the intestine, it could cause bleeding, hence the blood.
How would I know if I have colitis?
Only a doctor checking things out, and maybe a biopsy, could tell you for sure. Or you
may just have a hemorrhoid.
I thought that and Ben Gay were only for old people.
No, it can strike younger people. You are most likely to develop them if you spend hours
straining on the toilet.
Is there a treatment for hemorrhoids?
Lots of water, plenty of fiber, pain relievers, maybe witch hazel pads on your bottom while
it heals. In a worst case scenario, you need surgery to fix it.
Water and high fiber bread I’m willing to try. Surgery isn’t something I want to face.
If you have colon cancer, you’d prefer surgery now to remove a polyp than wait for it to
spread and possibly kill you.
You’re right. This isn’t a conversation to have over lunch.
