Brazil has over 801 aerial incidents in less than 3 years
Nearly accidents
Folha has obtained, through the law of access to information, statistical data about aeronautic incidents in Brazil,
regarding the planes that do regular passenger transportation.
The data revealed that, in the last 3 years, Brazil had about 800 aerial incidents.
Between 2010 and last year there were 801 incidents in Brazil, 23 of them were considered serious.
In the United States, this sort of incident adds up to 435 in the same period, 26 of them were serious.
The U.S. has 6.364 passenger airplanes operating. In Brazil they are 669.
That means, with 11% of the American fleet, Brazil had 54% more airplane incidents.
It's impossible that they have fewer incidents then us, what happens is a matter of accounting, of statistics.
For example, an event of air traffic is not counted as a situation of aeronautic incident.
I'd say that about 700 air accidents through out 2 years is a respectable figure.
A great percentage of the incidents are related to human factors.
Mechanical factors, let's say flaws in the machines, are less common.
The plane took off in Fortaleza with Teresina as destination. Because of imprecise methods of approximation,
the pilot ended up landing in the wrong airport, in the state of Maranhão.
One year later, another crew, in another aircraft, made the same mistake.
The human being makes mistakes, right? But what led you to do that mistake?
What allowed you to make the mistake? That's what is investigated.
But the human factor is not the only one that should be taken under consideration.
There is also the organizational factor. The company putting on pressure, the company abusing,
the company calling the crew inappropriately to work.
The passenger doesn't know it, the user doesn't know it, but a totally exhausted crew,
traveling under stress, could be transporting him.
All of the professionals of our operational security area have a degree
obtained in the CENIPA (Center of Investigation and Prevention of Air Accidents) or abroad.
All of the companies are accredited by the ANAC (National Agency of Civil Aviation) regarding their systems
and their accident prevention programs.
During a flight from Guarulhos to Recife,at 11.000 meters of altitude, the aircraft suffers a depressurization
caused by a flaw in the two engines and has an abrupt fall of 8000 meters.
One of the crewmembers was thrown at the ceiling and some oxygen masks didn't work.
5 days earlier, the same aircraft went through the same problem during a flight between Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia
and it was released after maintenance.
Two sorts of investigation happen, if it's the case.
One thing is the System of Investigation and Prevention of Air Accidents, the SIPAER,
which is an investigation that doesn't foresee punishments or holding a responsible.
The other one is the police investigation. If there is any sign of laws being broken, something of this sort,
the police authorities takes the proper measures.
Clearly, those evolved in aerial transportation want to profit, but this profit can't be bigger than wanting
the passengers to be delivered at their destinations with safety.
