Welcome to the online version of BA 207 Business Law 1
I'm Professor Brand, but you can call me "Prof B."
When you first access the course in Blackboard, you'll see a welcome announcement
which has information about when the course starts, as well as the orientation.
At the bottom of the announcement, you'll see a course link
that will take you directly to the Orientation folder under "Assignments."
You can also get to the assignments by clicking on the navigation menu on the left.
and when you go into the
assignments area, there will be weekly folders that will release.
I will release those folders
before the next week starts.
When you go into the
orientation folder, you get an idea of how the weeks are laid out.
There will be an introduction each week,
a deadline for the assignments, and
a list of the assignments that we need to complete.
In this case, some of these links may take you to others areas of the course.
For example, to the Syllabus or ...
to the Discussion forums.
You do need to complete this Orientation Quiz before
the first week will become available!
Then, the last activity is to introduce
yourself on the course blog.
The next link down here (in the Course Menu) is the "Discussions" link.
and that will take you to the discussion forums.
There will be weekly forums
that match the assignment folders.
When you go to go into it ...
before you click on the link to go into the forum, I would go over here to
the unread posts and
click on that. Then, that will just collect the posts that you haven't read yet.
Then, use the "Quote" button so
people can see what you're replying to
and then ...
you can type your response.
Then, when you do ...
hit "Submit."
Now, I'll go back into the
course and into the Navigation Menu on the left. The next one down is for grades.
The next one down is "Resources." There will be links to the textbook,
slides, videos ...
some various tools
That would include things like "Blackboard IM"
and some other tools
that will be helpful to you.
Then, there's the "Course Information" area. There's the Schedule.
The Schedule is laid out by week
as well as the dates for the assignments
as well as the ...
particular assignments you need to complete each week.
Then, down here at the bottom ... we see that the last week is a short week
it goes until Thursday.
The final exam is online and it explains what chapters are covered in
the Final.
Then, we can jump right to the Syllabus.
The Syllabus - you can download a PDF or Word document version of it.
or read it right on the screen!
and um...
some important things to point out are the "Course Grading" area.
These are the only graded assignments in the course.
You get ...
twenty-five (25) points for each quiz,
and short essay ...
fifteen (15) points for each ...
weekly discussion and one hundred points for the final exam.
Note that your lowest twenty-five (25) points is dropped if you comply with the
Attendance policy.
That is described below under "Attendance."
Make sure that you participate by posting in the designated forum
(which is basically each week)
at least three out of seven DAYS.
The quality of the post is
outlined here, as well as what constitutes participation or what doesn't
... and how I award points for participation.
The assignments are due by eleven fifty nine pm, Sunday, Eastern Standard Time.
I will not accept any assignments by email or after the deadline.
There's no extra credit, late work,
partial credit, or makeups.
The attendance and participation are important to the course.
"Attendance" would mean the submission of any assignment, including posts to the
discussion board.
More than just accessing the course!
There's a bunch of other information that I'm not going to read
to you right now but please make sure you go through the syllabus because...
there are questions on the Orientation Quiz that cover that.
At the bottom here is the "Contact information" area.
The first link will take you to
my office hours and some information about me the next link will take you to
a map of ...
where my office is located.
The next link actually takes you to a form
in Blackboard which you could fill out and give it a subject in the message
and send it. That way,
I'll know what
course you are in and also it will come from your GRCC e-mail.
Other email tends to get caught in my spam folder
and in the last one here ... I occasionally post things on Twitter and
those posts will show up here. So,
if you have any questions make sure you email me at gbrand@grcc.edu.
