From "ARTS & CRAFTS" segment we got acquainted of various kinds of talents that were able
of making beautiful art within its hands as they chose things from their environment and
made beautiful art as well. This season too< we'll focus on great talents
and today we have "Tareq" who draws on an IPad and his artworks are extraordinary!
Amani: "Tareq what is the kind of art you're trying to present? Can I say that you're an
artist?"
Tareq: "Yes you can, however you cannot call me an illustrator or a painter or for example
a portrait artist because these things aren't my original type of drawing.
Most of what I do are caricatures and cartoons of all its kinds, I can make a comedy cartoon,
a horror cartoon. Basically people think that cartoons are just
for comedy< whilst it can present a lot of things, it's even possible that a cartoon
artwork can be better than a Picasso's artwork but that doesn't have to be my artwork haha
I just meant to say an example." Amani: "What are your work's steps? because
you usually draw and also do comics, something about Tshirts something about Ipads, I want
to tidy things up here." Tareq: "Firstly, I started drawing from 12
years ago, from when I was 4 years old on drawing on normal papers, I used to imitate
what I see on TV from various cartoon characters..." Amani: "So the television is what inspired
you?!" Tareq: "Exactly, specially Donald Duck (LAUGHS)
so I used to copy the drawings from TV and stuff until I started creating my own original
characters, not necessary to always imitate. So I started making characters on sketchbooks
that belonged to school, until I noticed that the printed lines on the sketchbooks of schools
are ruining the drawings, so O began with A4 papers, from there i started making a lot
of artworks until i figured that I don't colour very well using coloured pencils, and i started
thinking of what to use to colour my drawings, then i heard about Photoshop, I moved to a
technique where I draw on a paper, scan it then colour it using photoshop."
Amani: "Ok, and when you finish the colouring process what else do you do?"
Tareq: " I can make it a t-shirt, I can make it a poster, i can also leave it to myself
or some other reason, but there are lots of people who order and I do the same process
again and make it a t-shirt for their children or even for them."
Amani: "Talk to me about the cartoon and characters you're creating and what is the artistic part
of them?" Tareq: "Firstly, cartoons aren't something
easy like what most people think, even though cartoons don't need correct anatomy of the
body but it also want to give a message, It's not like you do an artwork than that's it...
it's got to have a goal, for example you want to make a certain person laugh at it, or you
want that person to feel something, all artworks of all kinds cartoons or portraits have a
goal, there's no art without a goal." Amani: "The goal of your artworks is that
you give a message to people, other than showing your mood and mood swings (LAUGHS) there's
surely something else you want to present because I heard that you draw comics and stories."
Tareq: "Yes the comics I usually draw are only a one-page comic, because i don't like
to be obliged to draw the same characters over and over, I like to draw new things.
As for the drawings that might send a deep message to people, I drew once about parents'
rights on their children, and it's even in cartoon, so imagine how a cartoon can resemble
something strong as that, it's possible, but there are people who don't believe in that."
Amani: Tareq all this process how long does it usually take? you're drawing on papers,
you scan them, you colour them and you get them out and sometimes print drawings on t-shirts."
Tareq: " As i told you before, I use several techniques< if it was a fast sketch it maximum
takes 1 hour, however in Ipad completed arworks they might take a whole day, i have a certain
artwork that took me a whole month just to draw a specific character in a particular
cartoon in the right way."
