Today we will make idli with vermicelli.
Let’s see what all ingredients are required for making vermicelli idli.
Vermicelli - 1 cup
Semolina - ½ cup
Curd - 1 cup
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Ginger - 1 inch piece (grated)
Red mustard seeds - ¼ tsp
Curry leaves- 8-10
Salt - as per taste (less then 1 tsp)
Eno powder - ¾ tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Let’s start with the procedure of making idli.
Firstly roast vermicelli and semolina.
Add them in pan and roast for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
Turn off the gas.
We will make batter from it.
Take out semolina and vermicelli in a bowl.
We can also make idli just by using vermicelli but semolina helps bind the idli.
Add curd into it.
Also add slat, ginger.
Mix all ingredients really well.
Add ¼ cup of water.
Now we will add tadka into it.
For making tadka add 2 tsp oil in a pan.
When oil gets hot add mustard seeds
urad dal
and curry leaves
Add this tadka in the mixture.
Mix all ingredients nicely.
Grease the idli stand with some oil.
Add eno salt in the end.
Don’t whisk the batter too much.
Now place the batter in idli stand like this.
We have arranged the idli stand
Now place the stand in cooker
Close the lid of pressure cooker after removing the whistle from it.
Cook the idli for 10 minutes in steam.
After 10 minutes check the idli; turn off the gas.
Idli appears to be spongy.
For checking insert knife in the idli, it should come out clean.
Separate out the molds so that idli gets frigid immediately
Now take out idlis from the molds
For this run knife all around the idli
Like wise take out all idlis.
Spongy vermicelli idli is ready.
Serve vermicelli idli with coconut chutney, peanut chutney or chana dal chutney
