There's been a lot of political conflict around health reform because it touches a lot of
raw nerves for people. It involves their sense of political freedom, their sense of individual
liberty, their privacy, and it touches on issues of life and death. It's very hard for
people have rational, calm discussions about those things. They are cultural hot buttons
for everyone.
So health reform itself became sort of a projection screen for a lot of people, for a lot of what
they are most afraid of, not just in health care, but in life, in this world. And health
care, I think, has become, unfortunately health reform has become a dumping ground for a lot
of what people don't like about health care generally.
