Gwyndolin is the Dark Sun,
leader of the Darkmoon and unrest is constant within his soul.
Gwyndolin struggles to uphold his father's legacy.
He struggles to maintain the illusion of power;
he struggles with his own existence -- desperately begging for acceptance
even after all those he loves have abandoned Anor Londo;
have abandoned him. But to understand the Dark Sun Gwyndolin
we must first know his father, Gwyn.
And to understand Gwyn we must know that there are two different variations
of the same deity.
Gwyn the mighty, the Lord of Sunlight who challenged the strength of the
Everlasting Dragons
and won; ushering Lordran from the Age of Ancients
into the Age of Fire. And, Gwyn the weak
Gwyn the Lord of Cinder
who fell hollow sacrificing himself to link the flame in an attempt prolong the reign
of the Age of Fire. In between this transition from the Lord of Sunlight
to the Lord of Cinder, Gwyn did much.
For one, he had three children: Gwyn's firstborn's ture idenity is unknown
he lost important historical documents and was stricken from the annals of time
as punishment, the second born and only daughter --
the Princess of Sunlight, Gwynevere
and the youngest Gwyndolin; the poor child.
An empty statue placement displays Gwyn's temperament for failure,
where statue his firstborn surely once stood; it stands no longer due to failure of duty.
Gwyndolin, on the other hand, was considered a disappointment from birth
a placement was never constructed for him to stand beside his father and siblings.
This is because Gwyndolin had an affinity to the moon which was seen as a feminine trait;
as such Gwyn raised his youngest boy as female
An outcast from birth
Desperate for acceptance Gwyndolin dons a crown symbolic of the sun to manifest
great adoreation for the sun.
The heir also called himself the Dark Sun; a reminder to his family that the moon
is still a reflection a brilliant sunlight
just as he is a reflection of his father.
Gwyndolin would also oversee the Darkmoon Blade
a covenant of vengeance seekers who exact justice upon all invading spirits;
spirits of dark well-known for their attempts at ending the Age of Fire
the age of his Father.
In spite of Gywndolin's efforts, the Darkmoon Blades
couldn't prevent the flame from fading.
like his brother before him; another disappointment
Unable to rely on his lineage Gwyn would take matters into his own hands.
Gywn would sacrifice himself to link the flame.
His last order before falling hollow Gwyn commanded his children to shepherd the humans.
Gwyndolin would not fail his father again, but how far was it taken?
A millennium has passed and with their father gone,
Gwyndolin has driven humanity to the brink;
corralling them to the north or exiling them to stone prisons
Shepherds are meant to watchover and care for their flock.
Surely, this isn't what Gwyn had intended.
This conduct is on befitting of the Gods
The benevolent Gwynevere, unable to bear witness to the mistreatment of humans,
leaves Anor Londo with Flann
Alone now.
Mentally broken and abused
Gwyndolin creates a facade of normalcy.
A deity left and forgotten.
Alone.
Abandoned.
But, did he truly ever have anyone to begin with?
Gwyndolin struggles.
He struggles to maintain the flame. He struggles to maintain his father's legacy.
Gwyndolin is the true remaining vestige of the Age of Fire, not the Lord of Cinder.
Desperate in his quest for approval
Gwyndolin finally got his wish.
They're both the same in the end.
Father, like son, they both remain; cleaning to a hollow existence
Empty and alone.
