For the tenth year in a row Pittsburg State University made the trip up to legendary Arrowhead
Stadium which was for the day, home of the Pittsburg State Gorillas. The Gorillas made
an impressive comeback in the second half to win the game 38 to 35. For President Steve
Scott, marking the tenth anniversary of the Fall Classic at Arrowhead has been a remarkable
experience for everyone. President Steve Scott-“An its really been good I think for both programs.
Clearly its been good for us. We’ve got great alumni in the Kansas City area. For
us to have a game here each year, this has just been terrific.” This year’s game
was special for several reasons. The big comeback win obviously, it being the 10th anniversary
of the event, President Scott’s live remarks on the MIAA television network, and the attendance
of the 46th and current Governor of Kansas, Sam Brownback. Governor Brownback handled
the traditional coin toss at the fifty yard line and for him, it was a special moment.
Sam Brownback-“It just is a different feeling. So you get that feel of what the players,
in a modest way what the players get when they step on that field. It’s, you know,
a special setting that you’re in and that’s what was really fun about it.”
