Mercury Feeds Candida - Myth #6 Hi, I’m Dr. Jeff McCombs, founder of Dr.
McCombs’ Candida Plan and our new, online Candida library. I’d like to thank you for
joining us again for another in our series of myths about Candida albicans. Today’s
myth is, “Mercury feeds Candida.” Some people believe that mercury feeds Candida
because one or two doctors have pointed out that mercury toxicity is commonly found in
people with Candida infections. If this were true, just by association, then it would also
apply to parasites and thousands of other heavy metals and chemicals that are commonly
found in the human body. Lead is more commonly found in people, but we rarely hear about
feeding Candida. Mercury released into the body through dental
fillings or via accumulation in the tissues from air, food, and water has the ability
to cause short- or long-term suppression of the immune system. So while immune system
suppression can facilitate the spread of fungal Candida throughout the body, I rarely encounter
mercury toxicity as a factor in preventing the elimination of Candida with my plan.
Studies have shown that mercury can inhibit enzyme production within Candida and can block
the conversion of Candida from its normal yeast to its pathogenic, or problematic, fungal
form. Other studies with Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans both being incubated
in mercury show that mercury has the ability to inhibit both of those, with Candida being
slightly more resistant. Another study shows that Candida albicans
has the ability to convert inorganic mercury to methyl mercury. Methyl mercury, like mercury
vapor, is much more toxic to humans and can cross the blood/brain barrier and create inflammation
and damage to the tissues. So as you can see from the information presented
here today, not only does mercury not feed Candida, but it can exhibit toxic effects
towards Candida as well as creating other problems in the body.
