During Konfrontasi in 1964, we had to work very hard to keep Singapore a safe place.
At the time, life was different, as compared to what it is now.
When we go in for patrols, we are not allowed to fight with the enemy unless we are confronted.
So in 1966, I received a telex message giving me two hours to make up my mind whether to
stay with Malaysia or come back to Singapore.
Since my root is here, I decided to come back home.
Singapore went through a difficult time, and it has developed so much.
I have seen my children and grandchildren growing up here.
This is more of a home than ever before.
My father's generation had contributed a lot to the growth and development of Singapore
to keep this place peaceful, and the Pioneer Generation Package assures them that they
will be well taken care of.
