Toku Kainga returns to the eastern North Island
to a place known for paua, and seafood in general.
Next is Toku Kainga.
I give thanks to you both;
Tangaroa, the God of the sea and to you our land.
You both are the epitome of what I would like to be.
I thank you again for providing for me and my home.
Greetings to you all.
My name is Mini Westrupp welcome to my home Te Mahia.
There are two explanations for Te Mahia's meaning,
we are unsure which is the correct one.
'Get on and do it' is one explanation
and if you put a macron over the 'a' it means 'the murmuring of home'.
This is my table, welcome to the Mini-table.
What do I do whilst living here?
I am the claimant for Rongomaiwahine WAI 983.
It's a claim for all the land belonging to Rongomaiwahine.
Rongomaiwahine is my tribe, Hikairo is my sub-tribe.
This is the face of Rongomaiwahine.
Whangawehi is my stream.
Te Mahia was once an island before the sandbanks were deposited.
Kaiwaitau it's called and Te Ara o Paikea - Paikea's Path.
Why is it called Paikea's path?
It is the connection between this ocean here
and the ocean that travels as far south as Turanganui, Gisborne.
When you have a good look you can see Te Mahia was a separate island.
Those were some of the stories about my home Te Mahia,
this is Mini Westrupp for Te Karere.
