hi guys I'm home now which is kind of awesome for thanksgiving break
but last tuesday i was at hitrecord
with joseph gordon-levitt
hitrecord is a collaborative work company where bunch of people
upload videos together to be remixed
and done into whatever to create short films, little books, lot of other things
its a really interesting collab company
and it was actually a really nice experience, we were watching a lot of short films
but there is this about eating twizzlers and afterwards my friends
and I decided that we kinda had to run down to the cvs right after the show and just
buy
a bunch of
twizzlers
they were really delicious, the next day i headed over to the hirshorn in order to look at a bunch of
different things but uh... initially i wanted to look at the typographical
art that was in the belief plus sanity piece which was kind of like really really cool
post card time, yay
but really the reason i went to the hirshorn more than any other reason was
because john greens video coming to dc which you can see right over here
he uh... explores the ai wei wei exhibit
and after I had seen parts of it from him I had to go see it for myself
it was really
interesting so i want to give some thoughts on some of it
when i first looked at these houses i thought they might have been mulch, then i realized afterwards
like
after kinda smelling what they were around
that that they were completely made of tea, like it was all just a bunch tea which was
kind of
ridiculous to me
and there's this one piece where like when you zoom in you
kind of look
at different moon phases which i thought was really
cool and really
interesting to look at, and then there was this highly political piece um...
this probably requires a little bit of uh... information
apparently in chinese the word for harmonious is the homonym
to river crab
harmony is something that is generally used by the
chinese political leadership
to justify things such as the censorship
its a really intelligent way to sort of criticize the sort of awfulness that is
the censorship process in
china and like looking at the red river crabs kind of destroy the ones
that are beneath them
just makes me like
so many political feels that its
it's, it was such a strong piece that is just
I was amazed in general
things however took a little bit of a sour note for me after i saw
this piece
thats an ancient historical vase that was defaced with coca-cola branding
the meaning is not lost on me, I understand the irreverence to all
of these things and that generally
Ai wei wei doesn't really give a damn
about any of it and he's just gonna do it
and that's great, but
i think at some point that historical things need to be preserved and kept
as an egyptian i don't agree with many ancient egyptian principles
there's slavery, classism
and this
like incredible materialistic belief that you get to keep all of these in
your afterlife and you know, haha i will make sure to keep my riches in
my pyramid and all of this works like
it all seems ridiculous and awful to me and i don't agree with any of it and its really
bad, like I want to
admit like
as much as i think that the ancient egyptians were great, they were so very
bad, i think in a lot of their values beliefs
at the same time
i in no way would be correct to deface any of it whether it be for
artistic expression or any of that
i'd i'd think that
part of historical things is that they are going to be preserved so that we can
observe them over time because i don't want to be what rewritten over
like that just
that just seems awful, and i
have difficulty with the idea that
for someone who advocates so much
for like
censorship issues has no problem taking all of these
old ancient pieces and just reusing them
and defacing them
and in a way taking them apart in order to express whatever artistic
thing he wants to do like its
makes me very very unhappy
i get it
i really do
but i still think its
wrong and i would
ahhhhhh, wow
there's vlog got really deep really quick
which is (indiscernible)
anyway everybody have a happy turkey day on thursday because its all gonna be super
fun here the US and all of us, you know
time for us to fatten up until after new years where we all have our resolutions, isn't that how
everything works
see you guys later
you just watched peng1tv so
guess that was interesting, yeah
