The Prince of Wales celebrates his 64th birthday today.
A special dinner will be held in Wellington tonight
for Prince Charles,
hosted by the Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae,
who also celebrates his birthday today.
Anzac Pikia didn't get an invite to the birthday bash,
but did get to attend other events on the royal tour of the capital.
The challenge has been laid...
to the Queen's representatives.
It's a celebration of Prince Charles's 64th birthday.
Today the Governor General and the Prince of Wales
will both celebrate
their birthdays in Wellington.
Te Karere understands an invitation to the event
has been received by a number of Maori.
The waka crew from London were some of the lucky few
who got to meet the royals.
Today it was about revisiting
those connections.
But this paddler is upset.
I would have preferred
if Princess Kate visited,
but at the end of the day,
it was still a great honour.
We got to meet Princess Kate in London anyway.
It's not easy to secure a place with the crew on an event like this,
and they're fortunate to get the opportunity.
It's an opportunity they'll never forget.
It was a great honour for those of us from the Northland region
who travelled to London to represent Maori.
We were fortunate enough to showcase our Maori treasures to the world.
Birthday celebrations are expected to begin shortly.
Tomorrow Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall
are expected to travel to Manawatu.
Anzac Pikia, Te Karere.
