The wooden rappel tower on the campus of Pittsburg State has served ROTC for well over a decade.
It’s seen thousands of descents by hundreds of cadets; however, due to the years of harsh
weather conditions the tower’s structure became unsound. That’s why Pittsburg State
University, with the generous support from private donors have constructed the brand
new Ivan Crossland Sr. Tower and for PSU President Steve Scott, he understands how important
private donors are to Pitt State. President Steve Scott-“This is just another example
of just the great private support we have at Pittsburg State. Whether it’s building
a building, remodeling spaces or just adding any kind of feature to the campus. We have
tremendous donors.” Just like the tower before it, the Ivan Crossland Sr. Tower is
sure to serve not only the Cadets of today but for decades to come. In his fourth year
at Pitt State, Cadet Battalion Commander Kole Giles knows on behalf of himself and all the
other cadets, being able to see and utilize a structure like this at Pitt State is humbling.
Kole Giles-“We’ve been really excited. We knew this was coming and we’ve just been
so excited that it’s finally done and it’s just a blessing that we have so much support
behind it and to be able to use this kind of equipment is just an honor.”
