The last time Amanda Knox appeared before a court she left in tears having just been cleared
of the *** of her roommate Meredith Kercher.
Two years on, the 26 year old is back home in America and for the first time has been
talking on UK television about her ordeal.
"I'm not the person who the prosecution says I am. I'm not the person who their lawyer
says I am. That I care about Meredith. I care about justice for her. I care about remembering
her for who she is, not about the way that she was murdered."
It was 2007 when British exchange student Meredith Kercher was killed in the house she
shared with Amanda Knox in the University town of Peruga.
Knox, her then Italian boyfriend Rafael Sollecito to and a third man, Rudy Guede- were convicted
of Meredith's ***.
Though Knox and Sollecito have been cleared, they could be called back for a retrial.
The 26-year-old appeared on ITV's Daybreak throughout Monday morning.
"I was already imprisoned wrongfully. I was already convicted wrongfully, and this is
everything to fear. This, as an innocent person, is the ultimate nightmare. It's hard for me
to explain, even to my loved ones, exactly what it feels like to have your every confidence
in yourself completely broken down. Every confidence in your own memories even, broken
down by people who are trying to get the answers that they want out of you. This, a lie detector
test, would be just... I would be fine with that."
Knox, who has always maintained her innocence, confirmed that she will not be returning to
Italy for the retrial. But whatever the verdict, there's serious doubts over America's willingness
to agree to her extradition.
"There is proof of my innocence in there being no trace of me in the room where my friend
was murdered. I... There was no reason for me to have done this. There is nothing that
is a part of that would ever do something like this."
