DAVID BURNS: Lets get a player's this perspective on this win over Liverpool David thanks
very much for joining us congratulations
give us a few words to describe that today?
DAVID MEYLER: erm, hard work, determination and grit I suppose are three that could sum it up
the lads worked extremely, we a had few chances and we took them
and you know Alan McGregor's made two great saves there at one all and
look we got on the field and I was lucky enough to score, and then Tom
you know took his goal nicely and thats what happens in football. DAVID BURNS: Did you sense it before the
game that it might be your day as a team?
DAVID MEYLER: Well we just thought after a disappointing week, last week against Palace we need
we knew we needed to bounce back and
you know the manager pulled us in during the week and he said "look this is the way we are going
this is what I want you to do" and we worked at all week and look credit to the manager
this is the way he decided to play, and you can see from the lads performance today
that we deserved it. DAVID BURNS: mmm so what did he change? What changed?
DAVID MEYLER: If you look at last weekend we played a flat 4-4-1-1
and this week we got Brady and Elmohamady on the wings
as a wing back and then Alex Bruce came in who was perfect, made a couple of excellent challenges on
Suarez
and then you look at Brady and Elmohamady their, their fitness
their power of running, their deliveries is exceptional and you look there and Elmo unlucky not
to score late on
I mean you know kinda tucked in as a three midfield and you know
we tried to limit them with what they could do and we felt we did that maybe the last 10 or 15 minutes
we got tired
we tried a few longer passes, but look we got the job done, we got the three points
and thats all that matters
DAVID BURNS: Another change he made you were back in the starting lineup, how pleased were you to
get back in?
DAVID MEYLER: Yeah of course, it's a long season the manager is always gonna make changes
and you're gonna chop and change
there's 4 or 5 of us fighting for two places at times and it's hard work
and you know we all deserve to have a go at it
and it's one of those whatever the manager decides to go with, you've got to
go out and work your hardest to make sure
that you are in his plans.
DAVID BURNS: It's one of the great questions, that gives me the most pleasure saying to a player talk us through the goal especially one against
a club the size like Liverpool
DAVID MEYLER: Yeah I'm was lovely you know the ball fell to me and I've shot and Kolo Toure blocked it, and I thought
here we go, you know
my Dad's gonna kill me because I've not hit the target, luckily Jakes got a
touch on it and it's fell back to me and I've just said look clean strike
and luckily enough I've caught it and I've scored against a good pal of mine Simon Mignolet
so I'm delighted to score and all my family are watching at home and a few of my best pals are Liverpool fans
so they're not too happy with me I've had texts already so
I'm delighted to score my first goal and get the 3 points.
DAVID BURNS: You were the better side second half weren't you? DAVID MEYLER: Yeah of course we worked really hard
we limited them to what they could do, I think Alex Bruce did a terrific job against
Suarez
and he's one of the world's best players, you know
the tackles and everything fantastic you know we we work really hard as a team
we deserve that we've done it for one another and the manager
everyone's played a big part.
