It's the middle of the afternoon. You're driving home
from work; you stop at a traffic light. The next thing you know -
BOOM! You get struck from behind. In a moment's notice you
realize you've had an accident. What do you do? Hi. I'm Raymond
Silverman. I'm one of the principal trial attorneys here
at the law firm of Parker Waichman. And I'm here to
talk to you about some of the most important things you need
to do if you're involved in an accident. First thing is
whenever you're involved in an accident it's important to make
sure you or someone else's calls 9-1-1 and contacts the police,
so that they can respond to the accident. Sometimes when you're
involved in an accident, the driver of another vehicle may
talk to you about not wanting to have the police come to the
scene. Make sure in every circumstance - no matter what
happens in the accident - you have the police come down and
they investigate the accident there. When you speak to the
police, make sure that you give them an accurate and descriptive
version of what happened in the accident. The police are going
to be taking down what you say and recording it in a police
report. So it's important at that point and time that you
make sure that you tell them exactly what happened in your
own words. Second, if you are feeling any types of pain,
disorientation, headaches - anything whatsoever - make sure
that you seek medical attention. I know that sometimes one will
take an opportunity to say I feel OK, go home, see how it
feels. But it's of vital importance that you get checked
out. Go to the hospital; let the doctors take a look at you. And
when you go to the hospital, make sure you tell the doctors
and the nurses that are treating you exactly what's bothering
you, where you feel the pain, and listen to their advice that
they give you for your medical treatment. Now, let me tell you
a little bit about what we can do it to help you protect your
rights if you're involved in such an accident. First, my firm
will investigate an accident for you; determine who is at fault
and who is responsible for your accident. Second, we'll file all
necessary paperwork for you to make sure that your rights are
protected. Some of the paperwork that needs to be filed in an
automobile accident have fairly strict time limitations, so it's
important that you contact us right away so that we can
investigate the accident for you and make sure that your rights
are fully protected. Now an accident can be a very traumatic
event and by their very definition, accidents are
unexpected events that no one anticipated happening that day.
But if you follow some of these simple rules, you'll be prepared
in the event that an accident occurs and handle things in the
manner in which you need to. My name again is Raymond Silverman.
Thank you for listening today.
