Kadu has many qualities.
He is spontaneous,
he is sensitive,
an inteligent boy,
and all that allows him to interact perfectly
in diverse environments outside of our home:
at school,
with friends,
in the park,
so for example, his relationships at school are wonderful,
he doesn't feel different.
Kadu is a smart,
adorable child,
that I think every mother would wish for.
As far as school is concerned,
he is a child who quickly gets involved in activities,
he is always finishing first,
he is one of the best students we have at the school
and everyone adores him.
Adapting to the cochlear implant was natural and fluid.
Because he was implanted very young,
at one year old,
he hasn't missed any stages of development.
He learned to talk naturally and I believe that his voice is clean,
perfect, just like ours.
Today, Kadu has a completely normal life.
He relates to his hearing peers,
he is understood
and he goes to a normal school,
He does not have learning difficulties,
and that to me is quality of life, and that is what a cochlear implant provides.
When he was still a baby, I discovered Kadu's hearing problem.
That was a shock for me, it was like the floor opened.
I had been waiting to have a son for 15 years
and I wanted him to be normal,
a perfect son.
But one year later, he became perfect to me,
hearing like I always imagined,
and saying "mom" to me. In no time at all, he learned to say "mom".
I had many expectations for a cochlear implant.
Because it was a brand new technology here in Brazil,
and he was my only child,
I had to believe in something,
and I believed in the cochlear implant.
It was like a miracle.
My son could not hear
and one month later he was listening.
The cochlear implant is wonderful.
Kadu loves to sing and dance.
He is very confident,
He is sure of himself when performing.
It is really funny
when he calls to his friends,
"come on! Let's dance, let's dance",
It's awesome how he hears the music,
and dances exactly to the rhythm.
As his mother, I am of course impressed.
Kadu likes the music class because he is happy
that he can move his body,
and we work with the rhythm,
so that is why I think he loves music - because of the joy.
Judo classes have really aided Kadu,
especially with his development.
He has been practicing the sport for the past three years,
and I have noticed changes during this time.
The most important thing is,
the fact that he is implanted,
does not keep him from practicing this kind of sport,
because really, on the contrary,
everybody is a little bit scared.
He is doing so well in Judo class.
In judo classes, I teach and they learn,
not only motor coordination, but balance as well.
In Judo we work on discipline,
education and respect.
We all work together,
playing games, because that way the class is more fun.
They like playing games,
because that way class is more fun.
They like playing games the most. In judo we make learning fun and easy.
Mother: What is that?
Kadu: Judo clothes.
Mother: Judo clothes? Do you practice Judo here at school?
Kadu: Right here on this court. This is a Judo kimono.
Mother: A Judo kimono? Wow, ok.
Mother: And what is Judo? Is it a game?
Kadu: Wrestling.
Mother: Wrestling, but is it violent?
Kadu: Only if you do, you know, like this.
Kadu: When you have an issue like that you have to fight with your knees.
Kadu: It is like, look...
Kadu: you have to turn your friend around and you win the fight.
Fifteen years from now, I imagine Kadu as a grown man,
intelligent, hard working and independent.
Most importantly, a good man.
