SHIP helps to pay for visits to the doctor or dentist for routine visits, in times of illness, and during accidents or emergencies.
After you have signed up for SHIP you should receive an ID card in the mail.
If you don’t receive this card within one month of signing up please visit the UW Student Insurance Office for assistance.
When you go to an in-network doctor or dentist you will present your SHIP ID card and they will bill your insurance directly.
After your insurance pays its portion of your bill, you will then be billed for the remaining portion by the doctor or dentist.
Billing may take several months after your visit to a doctor or dentist.
You will receive a postal mail notification from your insurance explaining what portion of the services were covered.
and how much you will owe the doctor or dentist.
After your insurance company has made their estimates, your doctor or dentist will then send a bill to you directly informing you how much you owe.
If you go to an out-of-network doctor or dentist you will present your card and pay for the visit and services directly.
You will then need to submit a claim with your insurance to be refunded the portion of what your insurance will cover for out-of-network services.
To submit a claim with LifeWise, you will need to download a claim form on the LifeWise website and submit the claim as instructed on the website.
