There were a lot of exhibits in this zoo. In some, the animals would ask for food from
the passersby. The most notable were the donkeys. They were incredibly loud and unashamed in
their begging.
The geese were in a category apart. They were not calling out asking but rather demanding
it. It was a surprise seeing them behave in this manner.
I searched for more information about them. The wikipedia had some, but I was interested
only in their temperament. Are they really this brave and demanding?
Apparently so, they are used as guard dogs by some. It was easy to see that happening
as I recorded them.
Their enclosure, like most in this zoo was really large. I would say too big for just
two geese and a few wild ducks. This is not typical of the other zoos, but I don’t think
the animals really minded.
I have some experience with pets. The biggest problem that I see, is that people get them
without realizing their space requirements. Even the smallest of them may require a lot
of room.
When I was looking for a dog, I read a few books on them. One spoked about their about
general care. How being a good owner starts before you bring one home.
One section of that book discussed the possibility that you may not be able to accommodate the
animal. It lists possible life scenarios that would preclude the possession of a dog.
It was probably the most important chapter in all the books, for one of those descriptions
fit my life perfectly. Which meant I was not a suitable candidate for a dog.
I started to notice that a lot of people do not take the time to figure this stuff out.
Which leads them to terrible situations, where they have an unhappy dog while being unhappy
themselves.
Those administrating the zoo have researched the proper care of those animals. All of them
were properly housed and in very good condition.
The geese and all the other animals are the real winners here. Well, I win too, seeing
everyone happy, makes for a very pleasant experience.
