Hi, my name is Dr. Janet Stoess-Allen, I'm an orthodontist in New York City, Park Avenue
Orthodontics, and I wanted to share with you a patient that I'm treating today. This is
an adult patient, most of our adults we treat with Invisalign, but for this particular patient,
she wanted to be treated with braces, and so she came to me with an anterior open bite,
she had a crossbite on one side and we've treated her for only 13 months and you'll
be astounded at what she looks like.
So lets take a look at the screen. This is how she presented to me 13 months ago. She
had a cross bite on her right side, and a wide open bite. She's now seeing a myofunctional
therapist to help control the tongue thrust that she started with. We decided to use an
appliance called an ALF appliance, which goes on the inside of the roof of the mouth to
help expand or to push, and to expand the upper arch. We also used braces to pull, so
we had a push effect and a pull effect on the upper. Only 13 months later, her anterior
bite is completely closed, the cross bite is corrected and everything looks perfect.
